Why do people bring evergreen trees inside and put lights on them? How does that connect them to Christmas?
These past holidays, I heard a reason:
On nearly the darkest night of the year, we bring the last green part of nature inside. We welcome the tree of life into our hearts. We illuminate the tree to ward off the darkness. We celebrate with our friends and family to make light through the long dark night.
I like this story. It reminds me that I’m not just recovering from tech-addiction; I’m opening up to making light. With humorous levity, openness and an iPhone free hand, I can make the grocer smile. Instead of treating the cashier like a transaction, I can witness some of their experience, and perhaps leave them better than I found them. In the dark night, I can make light.
